Personal Note: I was a fine arts artist before I chose to use a camera to help build bridges between the different yet very similar peoples of our world. As an artist who deeply appreciates the work of other artists, I do what I am able to do to support and help fellow artists. Haitian Art is known around the world for it's unique qualities and can be found in the private collections of some of the top art collectors in the world. Despite the very high regard that the international art community has for Haitian Art, most Haitian artists struggle to sell their art work in Haiti. I have never been so reminded of the sacrifices that artists make as when an artist in Haiti pressured me into trading my used low-value wrist watch like the one below, for this painting. This transaction was not a fair trade in my view, and I only went through with it because the artist suggested this trade when I told him I had no cash, and he was determined (or desperate) to make some sort of "sale." Feeling guilty that this was not a fair transaction for the artist, but finding some comfort in knowing that this transaction is what the artist pressured me to get, I present this story to you as my way of saying: Some great Haitian artists are struggling with economic difficulties and would embrace fair trade opportunities to show and sell their artwork. If you appreciate, collect, or support, art, please consider Haitian Art. See index of Haitian Art images below & left
